SHASHIN: PHOTOGRAPHY FROM JAPAN is a multi-institution program aimed to raise awareness of photography from Japan in New York and foster an exchange and stimulate discussion in multiple segments: Academics, students, art collectors, researchers, artists, photographers, Japanophiles, and the general public of New York City. With a few exceptions, all events and programming are free to attend and open to the public. The festival is organized by the Council for Photography from Japan (CPJ), International Center of Photography (ICP), and the New York Public Library (NYPL).
